Unemployment Still Rising in the UK

Some 2.4 million people are now unemployed in the UK, and unemployment continues to rise despite numerous attempts by the British government to try and reinvigorate industrial growth.

Despite these attempts, claims are continuing to rise and unemployment rose by 220,000 in the past three months, taking the unemployment total to a new record figure of 2,435,000 which equates to around 7.8% of the population.

At the same time, benefit claims have also risen to new record levels, currently being the highest witnessed in the past 12 years with over 1.58 million people now claiming benefits.

Whilst economic analysts have speculated that unemployment is to grow rapidly, these figures prove that the current rate of unemployment in the UK is rising rapidly and it looks as if there will be no ease in these figures any time soon.

Nationwide, millions are feeling the impact of increased unemployment as they struggle to look for work.  With many people having just left school and college, they find themselves stuck in the situation that there are simply no chances of employment.

Many of the unemployment figures announced by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) do not actually fully reflect key demographics such as school leavers, so the real unemployment number is much higher than many will admit.

The British economy still has a long way to go before it is out of the ‘red’.  Forecasts are estimating that it will be after 2010 before the country sees any major turnaround, and estimates state that unemployment could very well end up at over three million before the financial crisis for the UK is over.
